June 2005 - Relocating to Shanghai

We are excited to announce Alan has received a job offer from PayPal to work in Shanghai. Our family will be moving to China this summer!

Over the past 12 months, Alan has traveled to Shanghai 8 times, and Kyle and I have joined him 4 times. Although the opportunity to work and live abroad was not a complete surprise, we are still in shock over how quickly this move will be happening. While in China last week, we signed a lease on an apartment (in the same complex as the Yens!) and enrolled Kyle in an international preschool. In the next 6 weeks, we will be packing/wrapping up, renting out our house, and hopefully, meeting up with friends.

We plan to be back in the Bay Area at least twice a year and will continue to accumulate many, many United miles. At this point, we estimate being in Shanghai for about 2-3 years.

It’s going to be hard leaving sunny California and all our friends and family here. We hope to see you (especially if we haven’t seen you in ages…) at our Summer BBQ on July 30th. Some of you will finally have a chance to see our home in Los Gatos!
